The No Harvey No report and campaign involved a year-long investigation following the journey of timber sourced from native Australian forests in Tasmania, Victoria, New South Wales and Western Australia to furniture retailers such as Harvey Norman.
Following the chain of custody, it reveals a number of overseas and Australian companies were involved in turning Australia’s native forests into timber furniture products.
Because of the lack of publicly available procurement policies and adequate labeling on the timber products once in retail stores, it is very hard to tell where the timber has been sourced. The means the consumer has no idea where the product they are about to purchase comes from and without knowing it, they could be contributing to the destruction of Australian native forests.
MFC urges Harvey Norman and other retail companies to adopt publicly available procurement policies that exclude the use of products from Australia’s native forests and from primary forests overseas.
